Quezon City — The local government of Muntinlupa City is encouraging its community of “Muntifarmers” to take part in the Urban Agriculture Technology Competition, an event designed to highlight innovative urban farming practices in celebration of Farmers’ Day 2026.
The contest, organized by the city’s Department of Agriculture–Extension Services Office (DA-ESO), aims to recognize the creativity and dedication of local farmers who continue to develop sustainable urban agriculture solutions despite the city’s highly urbanized environment.
City officials said the initiative reflects Muntinlupa’s commitment to strengthening food security while supporting urban farming communities through the use of appropriate technologies and sustainable agricultural practices.
The competition was officially launched during the Fresh Harvest Festival on February 24 through both in-person and online activities. Final judging and the awarding of winners are tentatively scheduled during the Farmers’ Day celebration on October 29, 2026.
This year’s Farmers’ Day event will coincide with the global celebration of the International Year of the Woman Farmer, carrying the theme “Kababaihang Magsasaka, Aaning Masagana!”
According to organizers, the competition is open to registered clients of the DA-ESO, with each barangay in the city allowed to have one representative. Extension officers will nominate the finalists by August 2026.
Participants are encouraged to present farmer-led innovations that are independently developed and not heavily reliant on government or institutional support. Ready-made or commercially purchased farming systems will not qualify for the competition.
Throughout the contest period, participants are also required to regularly submit harvest monitoring reports that include photo documentation and production data.
During the Farmers’ Day celebration, finalists will present their urban agriculture technologies before a panel of judges and the public.
Winners will receive cash prizes of P15,000 for first place, P5,000 for second place, and P3,000 for third place, while other finalists will be given P2,000 consolation prizes.
Interested participants may coordinate with their assigned extension officers or review the contest mechanics and registration details through the official online registration page.
