Authorities confiscated about PHP7.1 million worth of allegedly substandard computer units during a raid at a warehouse in Angeles City, Pampanga, according to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on Thursday.
Operatives from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Regional Field Unit 3 conducted the operation on Tuesday at a warehouse in Barangay Salapungan, resulting in the arrest of two employees suspected of selling and storing computer products that failed to meet the government’s labeling requirements.
Seized during the raid were 239 laptop units, 163 computer processing units, 141 desktop monitors, and two computer sets used for business services.
The CIDG said the labels attached to the confiscated items were not registered with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Because of this, the products were considered substandard and illegal for sale under existing consumer protection regulations.
Authorities are still searching for the male owner of the warehouse, who remains at large, as investigations continue.
The two arrested suspects are expected to face charges for violating Republic Act No. 7394 (Consumer Act of the Philippines), which governs consumer product standards and protection in the country.
