PBBM reports ‘very productive’ New York working visit

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. described his recent working visit to New York City in the United States as “very productive,” saying the trip helped strengthen international partnerships, promote women’s empowerment, and gather support for the Philippines’ bid for a seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

“I am happy to report that the outcomes of this visit call for peace amidst tensions in the Middle East and other parts of the world, and of course, to campaign for our UN Security Council candidature,” Marcos said.

During the visit, the President delivered the Philippine National Statement at the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) at the United Nations. In his speech, he highlighted that a nation’s true progress can be measured by the empowerment and well-being of its women.

Marcos emphasized the importance of education, collective action against violence toward women, and ensuring women’s participation in decision-making processes across different sectors.

The President also met with António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, where they discussed the Philippines’ continuing commitment to the UN and the principles of multilateral cooperation.

Addressing representatives from 193 UN member states during a special session of the United Nations General Assembly, Marcos underscored the importance of upholding the rule of law, strengthening multilateralism, and resolving conflicts through peaceful means.

He also reiterated the Philippines’ candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2027–2028 term, noting that the country aims to represent the interests of nations in the Indo-Pacific region, including developing countries, climate-vulnerable states, and middle-income economies.

On the sidelines of his visit, Marcos met with several business leaders and investors to encourage investment in the Philippines. Among them were officials from U.S. Medical Glove Company, who discussed plans to establish a manufacturing facility in the country that could potentially generate more than 2,000 jobs.

The President also held discussions with senior executives from J.P. Morgan regarding economic cooperation and global developments affecting financial markets, including geopolitical tensions and their impact on global oil prices and the wider economy.

“Sa pagtatapos ng ating pagbisita sa New York, ipagpapatuloy natin ang paglilingkod sa bayan nang mas mulat sa mga bagong kaalaman, pamamaraan, at mga ugnayan,” Marcos said.

He added that the Philippines’ participation in the UN and other multilateral platforms complements the country’s efforts to strengthen bilateral relations worldwide while also promoting regional cooperation, particularly through the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
