Ousseini Leads La Salle Past Adamson in UAAP Volleyball

MANILA – De La Salle University leaned on the strong performances of Cameroonian middle blocker Issa Ousseini and rookie setter NJ Bangit to defeat Adamson University, 25-21, 25-20, 21-25, 25-20, in the UAAP Season 88 Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.

Ousseini delivered a career-best 21 points, producing 14 attacks, five blocks, and two aces. Bangit guided the team’s offense with 33 excellent sets while contributing seven digs.

The victory improved La Salle’s record to 2-4, putting the Green Spikers in a tie for fifth place with Ateneo de Manila University.

La Salle head coach Jose Roque said the win was an important step for the team after a slow start to the season.

“We prepared hard for this game and the result showed. But we still need more wins if we want to climb the standings,” Roque said after the two-hour match.

Adamson tried to extend the contest after taking the third set behind the efforts of Joel Menor, Maruel Tan, and Ahmed Tahiluddin. However, the Green Spikers regained control in the fourth set, building an early 10-4 lead and maintaining their advantage until the end.

Eugene Gloria contributed 18 points along with 22 excellent receptions and eight digs for La Salle. Rui Ventura added 12 points, including 11 attacks, while Chris Hernandez recorded 10 points, 17 excellent receptions, and seven digs. Paolo Layug also scored 10 points.

For Adamson, Menor finished with 18 points, 17 excellent receptions, and four digs, while Tan added 16 points. The Soaring Falcons dropped to a 1-5 record, tied with University of the East for eighth place.

La Salle will next face defending champion National University, while Adamson is scheduled to play University of the Philippines on March 15.
