Eala Falls to Noskova in BNP Paribas Open

MANILA – Filipino tennis player Alexandra Eala exited the BNP Paribas Open after suffering a 2-6, 0-6 defeat to Czech player Linda Noskova on Wednesday at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, California, United States.

The 14th-seeded Noskova dominated the match with seven aces, eliminating the world No. 32 Eala in just 55 minutes.

With the win, Noskova advanced to the quarterfinals where she will face Australian Talia Gibson, who earlier defeated seventh seed Jasmine Paolini of Italy, 7-5, 2-6, 6-1.

In another quarterfinal matchup, top seed Aryna Sabalenka secured a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Japanese star Naomi Osaka. Sabalenka will next take on 10th seed Victoria Mboko of Canada, who defeated American Amanda Anisimova, 6-4, 6-1.

Meanwhile, Eala also bowed out in the doubles competition. She and American partner Iva Jovic were beaten in the opening round by the pair of Hailey Baptiste of the United States and Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, 2-6, 2-6.

Eala earlier advanced to face Noskova after recording a 6-2, 2-0 lead against American Coco Gauff, who retired from their match due to a left arm injury.

The two players had previously met in the quarterfinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships last month, where Gauff won convincingly, 6-0, 6-2.
