3 more Negros Occidental LGUs to open OTOP retail stores

BACOLOD CITY – Three more local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental are set to open their own “One Town, One Product” (OTOP) retail stores with support from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Gabriel Advincula, trade-industry development specialist of DTI-Negros Occidental, said Wednesday that in northern Negros, Sagay City will launch its OTOP store on March 16, while the town of Calatrava, Negros Occidental is scheduled to open its store in the last week of April.

He added that Bacolod City will also open its own OTOP retail store before the end of April.

“The OTOP retail stores highlight the best locally made products and showcase the finest goods from Negros. They also give micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) more opportunities to reach wider markets and increase their visibility,” Advincula said in a statement.

At present, there are six OTOP retail stores operating in Negros Occidental. Four of these LGU-run stores were launched last year in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, Kabankalan City, Sipalay City, and Cadiz City.

The province’s first OTOP store, which opened in 2021, is hosted by the Association of Negros Producers (ANP) at its showroom along South Capitol Road in Bacolod City.

The ANP OTOP store currently features products from 63 MSMEs across various sectors.

Another retail outlet called OTOP Lifestyle, which displays goods from more than 100 local producers, is located inside Ayala Malls Capitol Central in Bacolod City.

According to the DTI, OTOP stores serve not only as retail outlets but also as hubs for innovation, collaboration, and entrepreneurship. These centers help local producers, artisans, farmers, and food processors bring their products closer to consumers.

Under the OTOP Program, MSMEs receive support through product development, branding, marketing assistance, and improved market access.

“The growing network of OTOP stores showcases the rich culture, creativity, and craftsmanship of Negrense communities—from traditional weaving and handcrafted items to specialty food products and agricultural goods,” the agency added.
