Heavy AI use linked to “brain fry,” experts warn

NEW YORK — Experts warn that heavy use of artificial intelligence may lead to mental exhaustion, a phenomenon now described as “AI brain fry.” Users who rely extensively on AI tools report feeling overwhelmed by managing complex prompts, analyzing outputs, and supervising multiple automated assistants.

Consultants from Boston Consulting Group coined the term “AI brain fry” to describe the mental fatigue caused by excessive use or oversight of artificial intelligence systems. They explained that constantly monitoring AI-generated results and coordinating multiple tools can push users beyond their cognitive limits.

The growing use of AI agents that perform tasks on demand has shifted workloads from manual execution to supervision. While these tools aim to increase productivity, users often find themselves managing fast-moving digital workers, which can create new forms of stress.

Experts say balancing AI usage and maintaining clear workflows may help prevent overload, ensuring that artificial intelligence remains a helpful productivity aid rather than a source of mental strain.
