CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela — The local government of Echague honored its farmers and fisherfolk during the recent Farmers’ Night, part of the town’s 163rd founding anniversary and 2026 fiesta, recognizing their key role in sustaining food production and driving the local economy.
The celebration underscored the importance of agricultural workers whose dedication and resilience help ensure food security across the province.
Mayor Faustino A. Dy V commended the sector for its hard work and sacrifices, stressing that farmers and fisherfolk remain central to the municipality’s continued development.
He also reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to rolling out programs that enhance productivity, expand income opportunities, and promote sustainable farming and fishing practices.
Officials from the Department of Agriculture and the provincial government, including Regional Executive Director Rose Mary Aquino, Vice Governor Francis Faustino A. Dy, and Provincial Agriculturist Sergio Galamgam, likewise expressed strong support for the agriculture sector during the awarding ceremony.
They highlighted the need for innovation, collaboration, and sustained government support to build a more resilient and globally competitive agriculture industry.
As part of the event, outstanding individuals and groups were recognized for their contributions to agriculture and fisheries in Echague.
Among the awardees were top performers in rice, corn, high-value crops, organic farming, and fisheries, along with exemplary young farmers and women in agriculture. Several cooperatives, irrigators’ associations, and agricultural learning sites were also honored.
Mayor Dy said the recognition program not only celebrates achievements but also encourages greater innovation, productivity, and dedication among stakeholders, noting that Echague remains largely agriculture-based.
With continued government backing and active community involvement, local leaders remain optimistic about achieving a more productive, climate-resilient, and inclusive agricultural future for Echague and the wider province of Isabela.
