Responsibility in a time of global uncertainty

The conflict in the Middle East is once again affecting global energy markets, and the Philippines is not immune to its impact. With the possibility of higher fuel prices and supply challenges, the call for energy conservation has become more important than ever.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. recently urged government offices and the public to reduce electricity use. Government agencies have started implementing a four-day workweek, and the private sector has been encouraged to consider doing the same. These steps aim to manage electricity demand and protect the country from possible energy shortages.

Meralco also responded quickly by reviewing its fuel supply and encouraging customers to practice energy efficiency. This shows the important role that energy providers play in supporting the government and protecting consumers during uncertain times.

However, the responsibility does not belong only to the government or power companies. Every Filipino also has a role to play. Simple habits like unplugging appliances, using natural light, cleaning air conditioner filters, and setting air conditioners to 25°C can make a big difference in reducing electricity use.

Energy conservation is more than just saving money. It reflects the spirit of bayanihan, where everyone works together for the common good. When households, businesses, and institutions work together to save energy, they help protect the country’s power supply.

In times of global uncertainty, small actions from many people can create a big impact. By practicing energy efficiency, Filipinos can help ensure a more stable and secure energy future for the nation.
