PBBM, J.P. Morgan tackle global economy, AI readiness

NEW YORK CITY – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday (New York time) said he met with senior executives of J.P. Morgan to discuss economic cooperation and major global developments affecting international financial markets.

The meeting took place on Monday while the President was in New York for his engagements at the United Nations.

Speaking to reporters at The Pierre, A Taj Hotel, Marcos said their discussion focused on the current condition of the global economy, particularly in light of increasing geopolitical tensions and ongoing market uncertainties.

According to the President, the talks also examined how geopolitical issues are affecting global oil prices and what these developments mean for both developed and emerging economies.

“The conversation covered heightened geopolitical tensions and their impact on global oil prices, as well as the broader implications for both advanced and emerging nations,” Marcos said.

He added that both sides emphasized the need for continued cooperation and open dialogue to better manage the challenges brought about by changing global economic conditions.

Executives from J.P. Morgan also shared their perspectives on the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) and highlighted the importance of preparing governments and institutions for its potential impact on the economy, industries, and labor markets.

Marcos stressed that improving technological readiness, strengthening cybersecurity, and investing in workforce upskilling will be essential for countries that aim to stay competitive in a rapidly evolving global environment.
