MAMBAJAO, Camiguin – The municipality of Mambajao in Camiguin has introduced a digital disaster response system called ResQR to improve evacuation monitoring and the distribution of relief assistance during emergencies.
The launch was made possible through a partnership between the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT)-Camiguin and Camiguin Polytechnic State College during the Fire Prevention Month Road Show held on March 5 at the Mambajao Event Center.
According to DICT-Camiguin Provincial Officer James Sagocsoc, the system uses QR identification technology to speed up the registration of evacuees and allow real-time monitoring of attendance in evacuation centers.
Sagocsoc said the application also includes features such as live occupancy monitoring, automatic inventory deduction, and fraud detection to prevent duplicate claims and track the distribution of relief goods during disaster operations.
Mambajao Mayor Yñigo Jesus Romualdo emphasized that the initiative is part of the local government’s efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness in the municipality.
He noted that every second is crucial during emergencies and that accurately accounting for evacuees in evacuation centers is essential for ensuring people’s safety.
Romualdo also stressed the importance of coordination during disasters, adding that faster reporting and response can help save lives and minimize damage.
The mayor said systems like ResQR can enhance coordination between responders and communities, ensuring quicker and more organized assistance during emergencies.
Sagocsoc highlighted the role of technology and partnerships in disaster management, noting that relief operations during disasters must be fast, fair, and transparent.
The ResQR system was developed by Internix, a startup formed by students from Camiguin Polytechnic State College, as a digital solution aimed at improving disaster risk reduction and management efforts in the province.
