DHSUD, Pasig ink deal for housing project

PHILSTAR

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) has signed a partnership with the Pasig government for an in-city housing project for informal settler families (ISFs) and low-income earners.

DHSUD Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar and Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto signed a memorandum of understanding last week, sealing a partnership under the Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program.

“The highest percentage of ISFs are here in Metro Manila. So implementing in-city housing projects is our priority. It would really have a positive impact on the lives of our citizens wanting to have their own homes through the 4PH program,” Acuzar said.

The local government has initial plans for two housing projects intended for ISFs in the city, according to Sotto.

He said partnerships between the national government agencies and local government units (LGUs) would help address the country’s housing backlog.

Acuzar said the agency was eager to learn from Pasig City’s “innovative leadership and best practices, which could be shared with other LGUs.”
